Shirley Marie Gillis, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday February 18, 2024 at Maple Hill Manor. She was born in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, a daughter of the late Daniel and Gladys (Dicks) Nicholson.
Shirley dedicated over 20 years of her life working at Spring Garden Villa, formerly known as Breton Bay, where she brought comfort and care to those in need, and her kindness and welcoming nature touched the lives of many.
Described as kind and welcoming, Shirley had a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. Her family and friendships held a special place in her heart, and she treasured every moment spent with her loved ones. Known for her gentle spirit and kind soul, Shirley’s presence brought warmth and comfort to all who knew her.
While mourning Shirley’s passing, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband Charles « Pee- Wee » Gillis, her daughter Glenda, and sons Danny, Les (Fazecia), Shane (Debbie), and Mel (Patsy). She was a dear sister to Doreen, Cedella, and Linda (Dave). Shirley will be remembered fondly by her grandchildren Dustin, Jess, Ryan, Andrew, Jeremy, Dillon, and Ashley. As well as many nieces nephews and friends. Each life touched by Shirley’s presence was forever enriched by her love and kindness.
In her journey through life, Shirley was surrounded by love. She is reunited in peace with her parents Daniel and Gladys (Dicks) Nicholson, her brother Daniel, and her grandsons Chad and Jason, as well as her son-in-law Wilfred « Wiffie » McNeil, and brother-in-laws Bob King and Greg Cormier.
The family would like to say a sincere thank you to the dedicated staff at Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford. Knowing that our mother was in the best of care gave us such peace and comfort. Your compassion and professionalism gave our family the support we needed to navigate such a difficult time.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of McLellan Funeral Home 3188 Plummer Ave, New Waterford. A private family service will be held. If you so wish donations may be made in Shirley’s memory to your local Food Bank. You may express your words of comfort and condolence to Shirley’s family by signing the guestbook below.
