Rita M. Patterson Obituary
In Loving Memory of Rita M. Patterson
1923 – 2024
While there is much to celebrate about a long life well-lived, it is with sadness that we announce the passing of Rita Mary Patterson of Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home, Miramichi, and formerly of Loggieville, NB on March 1, 2024 in her 101st year. Born in Russellville to the late Sydney and Charlotte (Arsenault) Savage on July 5, 1923, she was married to the late Elmer Patterson of Loggieville. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Rita was a homebody. Although she enjoyed her outings, she was always content to be back home surrounded by pictures and memories of her family. She was a home-maker and farmer’s wife and took great pride in attending to all the tasks associated with those roles – tending the garden, milking cows, doing barn chores, making pickles and jams, knitting hats and mittens and scarves, and sewing most of the girls’ clothing. She was an accomplished cook and baker and always had ‘proper’ meals (complete with dessert) on the table at ‘meal time’ both for her family and anyone who may drop in (looking for a donut or a chocolate chip cookie, perhaps?). She was a faithful adherent to Knox United Church and was proud of being a life time member of the UCW. She was a member of the Miramichi Highland Society and past member of the Loggieville Senior Citizens Club.
Mourning her passing are her daughter Dorothy Lee Patterson (Jim Stevenson) of Dutch Valley NB; her son Richard (Jacqueline) of Miramichi NB; her grandchildren Patrick Jones (Megumi) of Japan, Peter Jones (Heather) of Italy Cross NS, Kelsey Betts (Robin Fontaine) of Boundary Creek NB and Adam Patterson of Halifax NS; her great-grandchildren Katrina Luck of Sackville and Christyn Jones of Japan; her sisters-in-law Annie Nolan (late Alex), Libby Hay (late William) and Clair Savage (late Frederick) and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was pre-deceased by her son David (1973), her daughter Patricia Jones (2007), infant grandson Jeffrey Jones (1971), great-grandson McAulay Jones (2022), son-in-law Arnold Jones (2012); brothers Bernard (late Stella), James and Frederick (Clair); and sisters Rose Kingston (late Donald), Cecilia Anderson (late Abbie), Margaret Lyons (late George), Kathleen Savage and Francis Kenny (late Wallace).
Visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 4-7 pm. A celebration of Rita’s life will be held at Adams Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 11 am with The Reverend David Allan officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery later in the spring.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Miramichi Foodbank or Pine Grove Cemetery would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements are entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone (506) 773-3492. Additionally, messages of condolence may be shared online at www.adamsfh.ca
