Dexter’s Obituary
Born Feb, 2, 1938 in Rattling Brook to Thomas and Beryl Edison, Dexter was educated in a one room school there, leaving in 1954 to work in the woods and later as a heavy equipment operator for various local companies. He spent much of his career with the Dept. of Highways, retiring in 1997. He married the love of his life Sylvia (Butt) of Springdale on May 30, 1962 and they raised their three children: Trudy, Randy and David together in Rattling Brook.
For both, raising their family and later in life enhancing their lives by spending every moment possible with the grandchildren was what fulfilled them, especially after they retired together. The grandchildren were tended on tirelessly, whether that involved road trips to hockey tournaments, trying to figure out a Nintendo game for some pouting youngster, filling bellies with delicious goodies or soothing yet another scrape or bruise, they cherished every moment with their little ones.
People with strong character show compassion, are honest and fair, have a strong sense of responsibility and genuinely demonstrate their willingness to make the lives of others better. It’s certainly safe to say Dexter had character. But he was also a character. Any time spent in his presence – whether that was at work, with family, or just a yarn alongside the road or in the cereal aisle at the grocery store – his wit and wry smile often left you with a chuckle.
A dedicated employee, a friend to many, an amazing husband and selfless father to the end, Dexter was the very picture of character – always concerned for the well being of others, lending a hand and an encouraging word to everyone who was blessed to know him. He was always offering advice and direction to those he loved – especially warnings about the weather and when he thought it was going to be “best to stay off the roads tonight”. Today’s technology makes finding a weather forecast easily accessible for all his loved ones so they can safely plan their travel. What they’ll miss most is his genuine sense of caring.
Dexter was predeceased by: his wife Sylvia; his parents Tom and Beryl Edison; In laws, Ben and Katie Butt; brother Lloyd and sister-in-law Sadie; sister Cassie and brother-in-law Lloyd; sisters in law Shirley Giles; brothers in law Wayne Butt, Maybin Butt (wife Jean) and Bruce Butt, niece Jeannette Webber (Burt) and nephew Dwight Edison.
He is left to remember with fond and loving memories his daughter Trudy (Cluny) Randell) and sons Randy (Rene) Edison and Dave (Lisa) Edison; grandchildren Wendy (Tim) Power; Alycia (Daniel) Oxford; Emily Edison (Brady); Evan Randell (Crystal Clarke); Tiffany (Randy) Rideout and Jenna Budgell; great grandchildren Brett Power, Blake Power, Kaitlyn Rideout, Zachary Rideout, Nate Oxford ,Will Oxford, Ryder Fallon and Riley Fallon; sisters in law Sheila Saunders, Betty Butt and Maisie Butt.
The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Todd Young and the staff of Green Bay Health Centre. Also the staff of Kingsway Retirement Home, and his Home Care Workers for your on-going love and care shown to their father.
