1933 – 2024
Allen Henry Eshpeter, of St. Albert, Alberta, died on April 10th, 2024, at the age of 90 years.
Al was born and raised on a farm near Strome, Alberta. He went to highschool in Edmonton, and was ordained as a priest, teaching theology and philosophy at St. Joseph’s College at the University of Alberta. He then embarked on a new adventure, leaving the priesthood, and becoming a probation officer, working in St. Albert with young offenders for over 15 years before his retirement. He also served as a school trustee for the St. Albert Catholic school division. Al was an avid golfer and curler, the favourite uncle in the family, and enjoyed spending weekends at Amisk Lake with friends. He was a devoted Roman Catholic, and was in the music ministry for many years, and also sang for over a decade with the Grove City Barbershop Chorus and with the Edmonton Swiss Men’s Choir.
He was predeceased by 13 siblings, and his wife Anna. He is survived by his sister Leta McDonald; daughter Alana (Patrick); grandchildren Sabrina and Audrey; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 in St. Albert Catholic Church, 7 St. Vital Avenue, St. Albert.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
