Hickey, William “Bill” – 93, Oxford, passed away with his family by his side, Monday, December 11, 2017 in High-Crest Nursing Home, Springhill. Born in East Wentworth, he was the son of the late William and Mary Hickey. Bill was a veteran of the second world war having served with the North Nova Highlanders in England, Holland and Belgium. After returning home from the war he began work in the woods and eventually was employed with the Oxford Foundry and later retired from Gordon’s Greenhouses. Bill was an active member of the Oxford Church of the Nazarene for over 65 years having served in many capacities including the church board, as an usher and also as an all-around handy man. He was an original member of the Oxford Area Men’s Club having enjoyed his many years of Christian fellowship singing and meeting with this group. Bill was know as a generous person who was very giving of his time to his church, community and especially his family. He is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, the former Evelyn Duncan; daughter, Norma (Ken) Hickman and son, Carson, all of Oxford; grandchildren, Maureen “Mo”, Kathryn “Kat”, and Carson “CJ”; nieces and nephews and many friends. Bill was predeceased by his daughter, Maureen Joy. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Wednesday, December 13 in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home, 5075 Main Street, Oxford (902-447-2930). A funeral service for Bill will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 14 in the Church of the Nazarene, Oxford. Donations in Bill’s memory can be made to the Big Lake Camp or the church memorial fund.
