Wayne Joseph Cournoyer, of Montrose, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side, on November 20, 2017. He was born in Trail, BC.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol, son Ryan, grandchildren Dylan and Ava, his mother Mary, sister Donna (Dave) Gariepy, brothers Thomas (Laura), Dale (Joanne), Lynn (Am), and Neil. He is also survived by his in-laws Helene (Dave) John, Sharon (Rob) Ross, Ron Hollett, Gerry (Jan) Hollett, and Brenda (Tom) Nedelec, and many nieces and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by his father Donald Cournoyer, father-in-law Hedley Hollett, mother-in-law Lorraine Hollett and brother-in-law Brian Hollett.
From a young age Wayne enjoyed playing the clarinet with family and friends, passing his love of music down to his son and grandchildren. In the 1960’s, he played the clarinet with the Trail Maple Leaf Band and the Navy Cadet Band.
He was an avid baseball and softball player in his younger years. Later in life, Wayne took up the game of golf and enjoyed many hours on the course. Wayne retired from School District 11 in 2001. He enjoyed his retirement which included golfing, playing the clarinet, and gardening.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Fruitvale, BC on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 12:30 pm with Father Nino Tuyo, Celebrant. Al Grywacheski of Alternatives Funeral and Cremation Services™ has been entrusted with arrangements.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Sanctuary, 1705 Bay Avenue, Trail, BC, V1R 4B5.
