Obituary of Vernon Ruggles
Vernon Fremont Ruggles, age 76 of Shoreham Village Nursing Home, Chester; formally of Avonport passed away October 31, 2017 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born April 27, 1941 in Elmsvale (Musquodoboit Valley), Halifax County, he was the son of the late James and Vera (Rafuse) Ruggles.
At age 19, he moved to Kentville where he worked for Standard Paving, and later for Jodrey and Pulsifer Transport/Pole Star Transport/Armour Transportation Systems.
He enjoyed many summers camping in Keji with family and friends gathered around the campfire or on those raining days, sitting huddle together at the picnic table, under the canopy trying to keep dry while playing cards. He could be found attending family gatherings; community events; Lion’s Club breakfasts; going for an evening stroll; tinkering in his garage, or working around the yard.
He is survived by his wife Ella (Walsh) and daughter Anna. Sisters Helen Jenkins, Kentville; Hazel (Ken) Read, Bedford; Ella Jean (Bruce) Caldwell, Three Mile Plains. Brother Allison, Ontario.
He was predeceased by sisters Isabel MacAulay; Doris Power. Brothers Lawrence; Harold.
Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday November 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Avonport Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Fevens and Lic. Eva VanBuskirk officiating. A reception will follow in the Church. Memorial donations may be made to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada or to a charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Wolfville Funeral Chapel, 568 Main Street Wolfville (902-542-4656).
