Anthony (Tony) Latwaitis

We, the family, regret to announce the sudden passing of our Dad, Tony Latwaitis, one day before his 84th birthday.
Born in Sydney Mines on November 24, 1933, he was the son of the late William and Alice (Scullen) Latwaitis. Tony was a long-time member of St. Stephen’s Parish in Florence, and now a member of Holy Family Parish in Sydney Mines.
Tony loved to spend as much time as possible in his beloved Margaree. You could always find him in the “Brook Pool”, usually with a salmon on. In the last number of years, he could be found every night sitting on the bench with his buddies at the North Sydney Mall, “Mall Dollin”, as Mom would always say.
Tony was a long-time employee of the Princess Colliery, and was active in the Co-op movement and the Credit Union.
Tony is survived by his children; Elaine (Peter) Manhire, Halifax, David, Margaree, Alice (Charlie) Coleman, Florence, and Eric (Ainsley), Baddeck. Papa will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren; William, Katherine, Sidney (his chauffeur), Adam, Duggan and Elsie. He is also survived by sisters Helen, Massachusetts, Camillia (Billie), California, Vivian, Ont., and Yvonne, Baddeck.
Besides his parents, Tony was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Bernadette (MacNeil) in 2004, and 8 brothers and 9 sisters.
At Dad’s request, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass celebrating his life will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. The burial will be in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Florence. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tony’s memory may be made to the Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
