Robert Ett Campbell – 2016

Robert Emmett Campbell, 79
George’s River
It is with heartache and sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, Robert Emmett Campbell, on Monday, December 5, 2016, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on August 17, 1937, he was the son of the late James and Viola (Marsh) Campbell of Mill Creek.
In 1954 he met our mother, and after dating for 2 years, they married, celebrating their 60th anniversary in May of this year. Da was a miner, having worked in various mines over the years, including the old Franklin, Princess, and finally retiring from the Prince Mine. Da enjoyed bowling, and had gotten good in the 50 years he played. I’m sure he is missed at the Strand Bowling Alley, where he was a fixture for 50 years. Da enjoyed watching the Blue Jays, and his grandsons play hockey when they were younger.
We were blessed to have been able to have Da at home until recent months when his illness no longer made that possible. We ask in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Da will be forever missed by his wife Betty and his children Patricia (Fred Florence), Wendy, Bobby and Billy. Da was Poppy to six grandchildren; Ryan and Tyler, with whom he shared a special bond, Denise, Jennifer, Jessica and Stephen, and four great-grandchildren; Dante, Nevaeh, Anthony and Cameron. Also left to mourn are his brothers Adrian and David (Doreen), sisters Patricia, Colleen (Brian Harrietha), and Sandra (Bud Rice), sisters-in-law Marjorie King (late George), and Ruth Reynolds (Carl Rudderham), and brother-in-law Gordon Reynolds (Brenda).
Besides his parents, Da was predeceased by brothers Lloyd (Doleena), and Wayne, and a brother David in infancy.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. A reception will take place in the parish hall following the mass. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
