Richard Starr – 2016

Life Story for Richard Starr
Richard was born on January 14, 1949 in Turtleford, SK to Arthur and Suzzette Starr. He left home at a young age to go out and work for whoever needed a hired man. He was a very hard working man at any job that he had. He also played soccer with Thunderchild Clippers. Richard went to Thunderchild Dexter School. At the age of 19 he met his first spouse and had five children. He moved from province to province to provide for his family. As years went by he returned to Saskatoon (1992) with a “lil un” named Karen, and got married in 2001. They began raising their children, and grandchildren together, “and there was the Brady bunch”. Richard returned to his homeland, Thunderchild, in 1995, and had various jobs until he ran for council in 2004, and served a four-year term. Richard never said no to anyone who asked him for help or guidance. Even though he had finished his term on council, he continued to serve in the community, helping so many people off and on reserve. He was a very humorous individual, loved by so many, and loved so many, whomever it may be. He made many friends over the years. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his highest priority. On his journey of healing he followed his cultural and traditional values. He was well known in the Roundance circuit and part of the Cowboy Society. Richard became ill in October, 2016 and never recovered. However in that journey, he never lost his faith, and kept his spirits up and still managed to crack a joke and tease those that came to visit him. He had the strength and courage of his mother, and the soft, caring heart of his father. With this he will be remembered. We will cherish and hang onto those beautiful memories forever.
