Richard D’Entremont (Dick) passed away, peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. Born, November 2, 1943 in Halifax to Adolf and Minnie d’Entremont, he was a proud and loving father and grandfather. Richard moved to Shelburne in 1979, where he worked for Bell Aliant, formerly Bell MT&T, until retirement. While in Shelburne, Dick was very involved in his community, coaching both hockey and baseball. He had a 15 year career with the Ground Search and Rescue, Barrington Team, and the “Hug a Tree” Program which he taught in local schools. Dad took great pride in all of his community work and, in turn, the community took great pride in him. In February of this year he received a 15-year award for his dedication to volunteer service with the Nova Scotia Ground Search and Rescue. Dad loved music and was in a band called the Boleros, with his brothers prior to his other loves, his children, coming along. He continued to play music and could be heard at the Saturday market in Shelburne, the Bayside Nursing Home and many other events. He was most at home with his guitar in his hands. His love of music was passed onto his son, David, who has passed it along to his children. Getting to play music with his grandchildren was a great joy. Dad was also passionate about his sports. He loved to play, coach and watch. He loved the car races and was able to travel to see a few over the years. He loved to play hockey and was still refereeing games up until this past spring. He loved his team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and got to seem them win a few this season. He found another sports passion later in life, curling. The curling rink was a place you could find Dad most nights in the winter months. He enjoyed it very much and had such a competitive spirit. Why play if you don’t play at your best. Richard is survived by his children Dave(Angela) D’Entremont of Fredericton, Ginette (Brent) Stevens of Lower Sackville, and his three greatest joys, his grandchildren Jack, Lily and Austin. He is also survived by his brothers Robert, Dennis and their families. He was predeceased by his mother, father and brother Harley. We would like to extend our utmost thanks to the Roseway Hospital, EHS and the 8.1 Floor of the QEII for the loving care given. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Barrington Ground Search and Rescue team. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home and Crematorium Ltd. Visitation will take place on Friday, Nov.17 from 7-9 p.m. in H.M.
