Richard Allen (Barney) Barnhart – June 17, 1935 – July 19, 2017

It is with sad hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Barnhart after a short battle with cancer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marjory (nee Huber), his daughters Karen and Janice, his granddaughters Megan (Derek) and Rita (Devan), and four great-grandchildren, he adored. He was predeceased by his parents Clarence and Stella (nee Sedore) and his siblings Arnold (Eleanor), Ramona (Milton Goebel), and June.
He was also predeceased by his half brothers Arthur, Floyd, Clarence Barnhart and half sister Bessie Gingrich, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in Heatherdown, Alberta Richard served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 20 years with the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI). He served 3 tours of duty in Germany and was a United Nations peacekeeper in Cyprus in 1968. Upon retiring, he was an active member of the Legion Branch #281 in Spruce Grove, Alberta. Barney was a long time member of the Spruce Grove AG Society and very active in the Peace Lutheran Church.
Richard played hockey for 20 years while in the Army and later played in the Old-Timers League. He was an avid sports fan and in earlier years enjoyed spending vacations with his family in the wilderness foothills camping and fishing. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, July 24, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church (Church Road and Main Street) Spruce Grove, Alberta with lunch to follow in the lower level of the church. If friends so desire, memorials may be made to the Westview Health Care Center – Hospice 4405 South Park Drive, Stony Plain, Alberta T7Z 2M7
