Obituary for Raymond Joseph Chaput
CHAPUT, Raymond Joseph – It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather on Sunday December 17, 2017 at the age of 75. Son of the late Elie and Susan (Kelly) Chaput. Married for 53 wonderful years to Lise (Desbiens) Chaput of Pembroke. Loving father of Diane (Tyson Purcell) of Pembroke, Alan (Shireen Khaliq) of Ottawa and Debra (Drew McNabb) of Kirkland, Washington. Cherished Poppa to Kaitlin, Hannah, Natalie, Eric, Julie, Gillian and Aidan. Predeceased by his 3 sisters Emma, Lorna, Mary Margaret and his brothers Michel (Reina), and Lawrence (Pauline). Dear brother of Hector (Denise) of Port Hope and Earl (Patricia), Terrance (Carmen), Wayne (Wendy), Gerard and Willis all from Pembroke. Brother-in-law to Marie-France (late James) Stitchman, late Dorèze (Clayton) Traversey, late Pâquerette (late Norman) Vaillancourt, Pauline (late Lawrence) Chaput, Denise (Hector) Chaput, Florence (Roger) Duguay, and Daniel (Judy) Desbiens. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Ray was born and raised in Pembroke, Ontario where he met, courted and fell in love with Lise, his childhood sweetheart and their life story began. He took pride in his three children and their academic accomplishments. Raymond had a strong work ethic. He was employed by Pure Spring since the age of 13, then started a job in Petawawa as a Base Transportation Driver until his retirement at the age of 65. Raymond enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at Round Lake with family and friends. He took pride in building and maintaining his home and garden. Raymond was strong, dependable, proud, honourable, reliable, loving and could always be heard humming a tune. He loved eating sweets especially his favorite oatmeal raisin cookies. Sadly, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s soon after his retirement and ultimately passed away due to his illness. He will be greatly missed by every life that he has touched. The family would like to thank all the wonderful, caring and dedicated staff from The Royal Ottawa Hospital, geriatric south unit. As well as the compassionate staff at the Ottawa Civic hospital who were involved in his care during his final days. The family will receive relatives and friends at the

on Tuesday, December 19th, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Jean Baptiste Church, Pembroke on Wednesday, December 20th, 2017 at 3 p.m. Interment St. Columba’s Cemetery, Pembroke. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Ontario or the Royal Ottawa Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
