Obituary
The family of Raymond Cordell sadly announces his passing at the age of 96 years, on December 19, 2016, in St. Albert, Alberta.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years Juliette; and his daughters Michele (Fred) Bauer, Jocelyne (Gerard) Forget, Adele Cordell; his sons Gilbert (Ameeta), and Philip (Helen); and his 8 grandchildren Laura Maile, Curtis Bauer, Monique Hrushka, Shelley Forget, Adrienne Bishop, Lena Cordell, Darcy Cordell and Alexander Cordell; as well as 12 great-grandchildren. Raymond also leaves to mourn his sister Colette Fetaz; sister-in-law Phyllis Cordel; and large extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Marius and Valentine Cordel; sisters Cecile Dumas and Jeanne Maloney; and brother Francis Cordel.
Raymond grew up in the little French farming community of Apremont, north of Halkirk, Alberta. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1943 to 1946 and helped provide electrical generation services for airfields along the Northwest Staging Route of the Alaska Highway. Raymond had a rewarding 42 year career working for the same company under different names: Dominion Electric, Northland Utilities, Canadian Utilities, Alberta Power and Atco Electric. He lived in the communities of Fairview (1 year), Athabasca for 18 years, Peace River for 6 years and St. Albert for 45 years.
In retirement, Raymond enjoyed restoring his 1916 Model T Ford, and creating numerous working models of farm gasoline tractors and engines. He also enjoyed camping trips across Canada and the U.S. and overseas vacations.
