PERRON, Prof. Pierre André Age 82, born March 10, 1935, in Montréal passed away on Friday December 8, 2017, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Preceded by his parents, Arthur and Jeanette; and sister, Florence (Bernie). He is survived by his wife, Margaret Tse; his son, Vincent; sister, Hélène (Peter); nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Professor Perron obtained a Bachelor of Music in Composition from McGill University and a Masters of Music Education from Holy Names College in Oakland, Calif. From 1970 to 1981 he created music education method programmes for Radio Québec and the CBC called “Making Music” and “Faisons de la Musique”. He served as head of Music Education at Dalhousie University from 1981 to 2000, President of the Kodály Society of Canada, and on the board of the International Society of Music Education. Pierre performed many times at Carnegie Hall, most notably as conductor for Scott MacMillan’s Celtic Mass for the Sea. Pierre was a dedicated choral director, organist, an engaging teacher, and a passionate advocate for musical comedy, music education, and CAMMAC. Pierre was integral to the musical pulse of the city and made music more enjoyable, accessible, and enduring to all. A private family service will be held at a later date in Montréal.
