Patrick Paul Quinlan
1929-2017
Pat was born in Red Head Cove on November 8, 1929 and passed on
December 15, 2017 at the age of 88. Pat was a self-made man who began
his career in the trucking industry. He and his brother Maurice bought
a general store in the 1950’s and then started Quinlan Brothers
Limited in 1954. Pat was instrumental in the company becoming a world
renowned seafood enterprise that has received recognition in the
international marketplace. The Bay de Verde Peninsula and its people
helped shape the man he was.
Pat had tremendous foresight into the fishery and it can be said he
was a prophet in his own land. He received much recognition for his
business endeavours, including the recent Turning the Tide Industry
Lifetime Achievement Award.
Pat was an avid fisherman and hunter who took great pride in all
outdoor adventures. He was very generous and touched many people’s
lives and helped people whenever they were in need. Although Pat
resided in St. John’s his love of home and pride in his community
never wavered. This was evident in the fact that he visited Bay de
Verde daily in recent years.
Pat was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Alice (Riggs) Quinlan;
brothers, Maurice and Raymond; sisters: Molly, Nellie, Joan and
Margaret; and former wife, Marie. Leaving to mourn, his loving devoted
wife, Cathy and her four children; special nieces, nephews and members
of the Quinlan, O’Dea, Philpott, Hopkins, Bailey and Doyle families.
He will be sadly missed by an extended circle of relatives, friends,
fisher-people, business colleagues and loyal employees.
Pat left his stamp on Newfoundland and its people. He is now on a new
adventure and is at peace as he will be reunited with his cherished
family and friends. He will be resting at Caul’s Funeral Home on 84
Lemarchant Road, St. John’s on Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 2:00
pm. to 8:00 pm. and at Hopkins’ Funeral Home, Old Perlican on Sunday,
December 17, 2017 from 2:00 pm. to 8:00 pm. Funeral service to take
place on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 1:00 pm. from Assumption of the
Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Bay de Verde.
