Obituary for Nicholaas “Nick” Verbeek
Verbeek – Nicholaas “Nick” Pieter, suddenly passed away in his 82nd year at his home in Arkona, on Tuesday, December 26th, 2017.
Beloved husband of Lizz (Rombouts) Vanderkant for 22 years. Cherished father of Yolanda and Anthony † (1992) Verbeek, Bill and Eric & Candice Vanderkant. Loved Opa of Nico & Sam, Jon & Kenedi, Martina, Madeline and Zackary. Great Opa of Maria and Kayleigh. Nick is predeceased by his parents and brothers Lawrence, Joe, Tony, Reni. Survived by sisters in law Corrie and Vera. Nick will be missed by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Holland.
Nick was raised and learned the carpentry trade in Holland, later coming to Canada and starting and operating Verbeek Kitchens for over 27 years. Nick took great pride in his work and the relationships he built over the years, friends that Nick considered an extension of his own family.
Friends and family are welcomed to a visitation in memory of Nick will take place at Gilpin Funeral Chapel, 123 King St., Forest on Friday, January 5th, 2018 from 4pm-7pm. A Holy Mass will be conducted at St. Christopher’s Church, 68 Union St. in Forest on Saturday, January 6th, 2018 at 11am, with Father Tom Donahue officiating.
Interment to take place at St. Peters Cemetery in London at a later date.
Special thanks to emergency service responders that showed such care and respect for our family at this time.
Donations may be made in Nick’s name to The Epilepsy Research Program of the Ontario Brain Institute or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
