Death Notice
Peacefully, surrounded by love, on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Bluewater Health, Leslie Roy Betteridge passed away at the age of 96. Life was great for Les – he was active and healthy, remaining in his own home and still drove his “beloved Lincoln Town Car”. Les is now reunited with the “love of his life”, wife Pearl (2007). Survived by his children Barb (George) Morgan of Sarnia and son Greg Betteridge and his companion Joanne of Dwight, Ontario; grandson Kevin (Meghan) Berdan; and great-grandchildren Jordyn, Tyler and Zane. Les is also survived by his current love and companion Val Eggleton, and dearest friends Marie Timperly and partner John. Les was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 23, 1921 to parents Roy (1971) and Vera (1971). He grew up and was schooled there with his two sisters Esme and Connie (both deceased). He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942, with which he travelled many places. Luckily, he was once stationed in Geraldton, Ontario where he met and married his “Precious Pearl” in 1949. Together they raised two children Barbara (born in Regina, Saskatchewan) and Gregory (born in Guelph, Ontario). Dad worked as a service manager in the car industry for most of his working years including Guelph Motor Products, Plaza Pontiac (Toronto), O’Connor Pontiac/Buick (Sarnia), Andrew Pontiac/Buick (Sarnia), Riverview (Wallaceburg), Bayview Chrysler (Sarnia). He even tried real estate briefly with both Don Seely and Huron Shores. After his retirement, he remained active by fishing, golfing, playing cribbage (beating his daughter at both) and, of course, his favourite – dancing! Mom and Dad spent many weekends at the Bridge Tavern dancing with friends. After the Tavern closed, Dad could not give up on dance and socializing with his friends, so he worked faithfully to get Sunday Dancing at the Royal Canadian Naval Association on Lougar Ave. which has remained active today. This was a dream of Dad’s and today the dance remains a success and a many great meeting place. For all his many friends – Dad will miss you all! In closing, Dad we will keep you forever in our hearts – as you never really die when you remain in the hearts of others. Kiss Mom for us and give her our love. May you now find the “deepest fishing hole,” the “greatest golf course” and the “largest dance floor” to dance forever with Mom in your new world.
