It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful and
sudden passing of Leah Daphne Juanita Sabourin (Murray) on December
30, 2017. Leah was born in Tabusintac,
on February 4, 1952. After graduating from Tobique Valley
High School, she had a long career as a civilian with the Department
of National Defence, CFB Gagetown, retiring in 2009. In
2002, she was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in
recognition of her service to her country and
community.
Leah loved golf and curling and was a long-time member of the
New Brunswick Golf Association and the Gage Golf and Curling
Club. Leah was an avid golfer and enjoyed time with friends
on the course. She was a volunteer with the NB Golf
association with both the Junior Golf as well as providing her skills
as a golf course rater. She served on the executive of the
Gage Golf and Curling Club for decades. Leah was a staunch
supporter and volunteer of CARHA hockey for over 40 years.
Leah also volunteered her time to many charities including the
Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society, and the Heart
and Stroke Foundation.
In addition to her loving husband, Richard (Dick) Sabourin,
she leaves behind her children a daughter, Kim Keddy (Gary) of
Penniac, son, Terry (Chantal) of Fredericton, grandchildren, Ashley
Keddy (Justin), Rileigh Keddy (Richie), Steven Keddy (Pam), Cody
Sabourin (Katie) and Nicholas Sabourin as well as 10
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Also leaving
behind a sister, Marjorie Murray of Fredericton, and two brothers,
Ivan Murray (Barb) of Plaster Rock and George Murray (Eleanor) of
Fredericton and their families. Extended family in London,
Ontario, include her birth mother Betty Read, sisters, Monica Wood
(Tom), and Faye Ewing (Mark) of Pickens, South Carolina, nieces Nicole
Wood and Vanessa Wood. She will be sadly missed by her
granddog, Jack who spent many hours sleeping at her feet.
Pre-deceased by her parents Helen and Simon Murray of Plaster
Rock.
Leah wished to have a celebration of her life to remember the
good times. A reception will be held at the Gage Golf and
Curling Club, Oromocto, NB on January 3, 2018 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM
for all friends and family to attend.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish to do so, donations in
Leah’s memory can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke
Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
