Juliette Meness Ferguson 1928-2017
Monday, December 18, 2017 at 9:15pm, Juliette Meness Ferguson (Odemin Kwe) passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving children and granddaughter Kristi. Juliette was born on Kitigan Zibi Anishinaabe aki to the late Frank Meness and Teresa Tenasco Meness during the time of ripe strawberries. Mrs. Ferguson was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, LeRoy Albert Ferguson, her son Thomas (Jody) Ferguson, (Sinzibakwaad Inini) whose work founded Awazibi Maple Syrup, and her granddaughter Michelle Ferguson.
She is survived by her children, Fitzhugh (Jayne) Ferguson, Frank Ferguson, Joni Ferguson, Terry (Jackie) Ferguson, and Juliette (Lee) Gansworth, along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Julie was auntie, teacher, and relative to many people far and wide, and was known for her carrying on many important traditions- she made exquisite moccasins, regalia, and-tanned smoked hides. Odemin Kwe dedicated her life to her family and was always there for anyone who needed a kind word. Mrs. Ferguson shared her teachings freely throughout her life, on the pow wow trail and beyond. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered with love and beautiful memories among all those whose heart she touched.
Funeral service will be celebrated at the Holy Rosary Church of Maniwaki, Friday, December 22, 2017, at 11am.
Interment at the Kitigan Zibi’s cemetery.
Visiting hours at the Kitigan Zibi Funeral Home Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 2pm to 9pm and Friday from 9am,
