Joseph (Joe) Harcus
December 15, 1937 – December 6, 2017
On December 6, 2017, peacefully with his family at his side, Joe passed away at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Mae; children, Jo-Ann (Curtis), Bonnie (Darren) and Michael (Betty Ann); grandchildren Dustin (Brittney), Kelsey, Cody, Jacqueline, and Mitchell. Predeceased, by preemie infant grandchildren Kevin, Justine, Larissa, and Travis. Dad is survived by his brother Nelson; sisters-in-law Olga (Bert), Joyce (Chuck), Eunice and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Jim and Evelyn Harcus; brothers Don and Doug; mother-in-law Irene Pruden and many brothers and sisters-in-law. He is also survived by cousins Bud (Terry), Margaret (Bill), and Barbara (Tom).
Just 10 days prior to his 80th Birthday, dad passed away, after struggling with advanced COPD. He left us with many happy memories from the days of camping and fishing, family holidays in the truck camper all over Alberta and all the way to Disneyland in California. He left his grandchildren with many happy memories of all the special treats he had for them and of all the special times. He absolutely loved being gramps to his grandchildren and would do anything for them.
Over the years Dad and Mom spent many weekends and holidays camping. Hecla, was one of their favorite places, eventually they got a seasonal site at Spruce Sands Resort (north of Gimli) and enjoyed many summers at their trailer. They enjoyed fishing, boating, and old time dancing.
Dad loved all sports, for many years he was an avid Selkirk Steelers fan. He enjoyed attending the games and was a member of the Selkirk Steelers Booster club. He was a season ticket holder, and rarely missed a game right up until his health wouldn’t allow him to attend the games. He then focused on the Jets games.
Dad was a baker at local bakeries in Selkirk and then he worked at Superstore bakeries in Winnipeg until retiring. Dad took pride in every vehicle he owned, he especially was proud of his 64 Chev Belair which had been originally owned by his father and he later acquired and restored it.
Dad’s struggle is now over and he’s resting. We want to thank Dr. Claire Ramsey, Dr. Elbardisy, each and every one of his home care workers, nurses in Emergency and Palliative care, his wonderful neighbours and friends at Kiwanis on the Red for everything that you did.
