Peacefully at Landmark in Cobourg on Wednesday, September 27th, 2017, John Smyth Harper passed at 91 years of age. Beloved husband of the late Ellen Harper (nee Cooke). Dear father of Sandra Harper and Robert Harper (Kim). Cherished grandfather of Kyla, Kerrington, Breanne, Brooklyn, and Kierra. Brother of Tom Harper (Ann) and predeceased by his siblings Robert Harper (Margo) and Ann Barker (Tom). Also missed by his former daughter-in-law Karen Harper, and his many nieces, and nephews.
A heartfelt thanks to psw Sara for her incredible care and support over the years. A special thanks to Jeanette, Brittney and the amazing staff of St. Elizabeth. Our thanks to the staff of the Landmark for their exemplary care. As well, Community Care driver Bob, hospice workers Libby, Joy, Lynn and Iris, thank you! Last but not least, to Dr. Bayer, for your advocacy, compassion, and medical care we are eternally grateful.
John was a proud WWII vet who served with the Royal Engineers (78th Highlanders). He was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Cremation with a family celebration and interment at Lent’s Cemetery to be held at a later date. Those wishing may make a memorial donation to the Alzheimer Society of Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
