July 30, 1930 – December 28, 2016
Passed away at ARCH surrounded by the love of his family on December 28th in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Carol “Terry” for 65 years. Cherished father of Janet Harnden (Alan), Dennis McPhee (Susan), Kim Brooks (Mervin) and John McPhee Jr. Adored grandfather of Christopher Rose (Kristen), Kimberly Halleart (Bob), Michael McPhee, Maeghan Merry (Dave), Hollis Jones (Greg), David McPhee, Stephanie Kahtava (Adam), Mary Beth Collard (Jean-Charles) and Carolyn Brooks. Also great-grandpa to 9 children. Son of the late Donald and Edna McPhee. Loved brother of the late Hugh McPhee (late Shirley), Myra Bowser (late Ray), Dan McPhee (late Joy) and Janet Murphy (late Bill). Son-in-law of the late Art and Clara Bird. Brother-in-law of Jean Bird and Betty Grisdale (Dail). Special uncle to many nieces and nephews. John retired from the Great Lakes Forest Research Centre in 1987 after 35 years of service. He and Terry moved to Thessalon where they lived for 29 years. John was happiest when surrounded by his family, working in his garden, fishing on Basswood Lake or in his role as the hunt master at the hunt camp. Friends may call at the Beggs Funeral Home, Thessalon on Saturday December 31, 2016 from 9am until time of service in the chapel at 11am with Mrs Helen Smith officiating. Spring interment in Pine Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Sault Area Hospital.
