Obituary for John Patrick Leahy
John Patrick Leahy, born March 17th, 1928 in Glasgow, Scotland died peacefully surrounded by family on December 17th, 2017 at Hilltop House in Squamish. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret, his children, Selene, Diane (Dave) Harrison, Pauline (Ernie) Leahy, Bernita Leahy and his grandchildren, Stephen, Sheldon & Vhairi Leahy and Liam Johnston) as well as extended Canadian and UK family. He will reunite with his son, John Vincent, who predeceased him in 2015.
John Patrick shared his love of laughter, learning, music, dancing, whiskey, philosophy & joyous passion for life with everyone he met. From his RAF service in Egypt to his security work at Vancouver’s Building of Board and Trade (the ‘tower’) he always had a book in hand and a pen ready. He is fondly and lovingly remembered as husband, father, grandfather, friend, mentor, teacher and scholar. John Patrick Leahy lived life to the fullest and filled every moment with great love for his wife and family. He is loved and cherished and he and his acerbic sense of humour will be greatly missed. “We will meet again Great Chieftain!”
Much appreciation to Dr. Swope and the staff at Hilltop House for the care and comfort provided for dad and family. Celebration of Life will be held 1pm, January 6th, 2018 at Squamish Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Hilltop House.
