Obituary Overview
Joan Irene James
Joan Irene James, 89 years old, residing in Arnprior, Ontario, passed away at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on Monday December 11, 2017.
Joan, one of twelve children, was born on March 11, 1928, to Walter James and Henrietta Lefever in London, England. She was predeceased by seven sisters (Hetty, May, Grace, Hilda, Ivy, Gladys, Brenda) and four brothers (Ted, Stanley, Eric and Alan). At the age of twenty-six, Joan immigrated to Canada with her best friend Ruth. She worked most of her life at Hallmark Cards in Toronto in the accounting department. Joan was a kind and gentle lady who loved listening to music. She was a member of a choir in Toronto for many years. She moved to Arnprior in May of 2016 where she lived at Island View Retirement Suites.
Joan did not marry or have children but she will be sorely missed by all her many nieces and nephews in Canada and England. Her close friends in Toronto and new friends in her retirement community recognized her relaxed and positive manner. Her sense of humour brightened all those who knew her.
There will be a private family gathering at the Capital Memorial Gardens in Ottawa. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Joan’s honour.
Special thanks are given from the family, to the wonderful nurses and staff at Island View Retirement Suites for assisting in Joan’s daily life. Also, special thanks are extended to the Ottawa Civic Trauma Unit team and the Palliative Care team of dedicated and compassionate professionals, for making Joan’s final days comfortable and peaceful. You are all very special and we are grateful for your care.
