James Henry Brothers - 2016

James Henry Brothers – 2016

We regret to announce the passing of James (Jim) Henry Brothers, age 64, on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Jim was born October 20, 1952, in Berwick, Nova Scotia to Nellie and the late James Alfred Brothers.
Jim married his beloved wife Diana of 38 years on May 27, 1978, in Waterville during Apple Blossom weekend. He leaves two children, Rachel (Dana MacQuarrie) and Ryan (Sarah Winfield-Brothers), along with three siblings, Charles, Jean Napier (Guy Napier), Derek and many nieces and nephews.
He was a graduate of Central Kings Regional High School, Nova Scotia Community College (formerly Vocational School) and continued his education at Cape Breton University. Jim became a certified construction electrician with 14 Wing Greenwood Air Force Base (14 Wing) on June 2, 1976 and worked, eventually heading the CE Electrical Shop, on 14 Wing for over 37 years. Jim truly lived life to support his family and no calling was more important to him than that of husband, father, brother and friend. While he had a successful career at 14 Wing, completing special assignments in Frobisher Bay in the Northwest Territories and Bermuda, among others, he believed family and friends came first and devoted every waking moment to providing for the ones he loved. Jim was also a man of solid principles and believed in hard work, dedication and loyalty in all aspects of life. This can be seen by his many years of volunteering within his community, in addition to his positive impact on many athletes through participating in and coaching sports.
Jim wanted to thank Dr. Daniel Woo and the staff at the Valley Regional Hospital in Medical A, in addition to Dr. John Berk and his team at the Boston Medical Center Amyloid Clinic for their tireless efforts.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Chapels, Berwick Chapel, 192 Commercial Street Berwick (902-538-9900). Family, friends, and those whose lives Jim has touched are invited to share stories of him in celebration of his life. A service will be held on Saturday, December 3, at 2:00 pm in the Berwick Chapel, followed by reception at 3:00 pm at the Berwick Legion, 232 Main Street. Jim has requested family flowers only, anyone wishing to display support may donate in his name to the Amyloid Research Fund at Boston University (www.bu.edu/amyloid/donate/) to raise awareness to this rare and debilitating condition.
Jim will be missed dearly by all who have known him, but will stay in our hearts forever and will not be forgotten.
