Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
James (Jim) Phillips passed away at Carewest Garrison Green in Calgary on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the age of 85 years.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his children: Debie (Jamie) Lywood of Priddis, Ron Phillips of Kelowna, and Donald Phillips of Toronto; and his five grandchildren: Mariah, Brooklyn, Kora, Roanna and RJ. He will also be sadly missed by his sister Rena Deleske of High River; his brother Bob Phillips of Vergreville; and two loving nieces Rhonda and Morgan Sinclair. Jim is also survived by his other children from a previous marriage: Danny, Lori, and Diane.
James was born on January 14, 1932 in the town of Olds, Alberta and raised in Calgary, Alberta. In his early days, Jim used to deliver groceries in the community of Bankview. He had a love for the rodeo and did some riding of his own entering in saddle-bronc competitions and being an outrider for the family chuck wagon in the late 1940’s at the Calgary Stampede. Jim later went on to serve for one year in the military as a Private with the Calgary Highlanders Army Reserve Infantry unit.
In 1952, he moved on to do some oilfield work, which started off here in Alberta and in 1965 took him overseas where he spent years in various places such as Australia, Iran and Indonesia. Jim took great pride in his work as a Rig and Field Superintendent and worked for the company Bawden Drilling for almost 30 years. He returned home to Canada in 1982 due to health reasons where he remained.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home (1605 – 100 Street SE, Calgary) on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.
