Obituary for Jack Holstein
After a brief illness, Jack passed peacefully at his farm home in Caledonia on November 18, 2017 at the age of 95. Predeceased by his dear wife Evelyn. Loving father to Ken (Zosia) and Susan. Dear Poppie to Jennifer (Harley) and great grandchildren Hannah and Jack. Predeceased by his sister Dorothy, brother-in-law Harris, brother Don, sister-in-law Audrey and brother Doug. Survived by his sister-in-law Sylvia. Jack proudly served during WWII as a Flight Lieutenant with the Royal Air Force in the RAF 355 Squadron based in India, known as the Burma Bombers. The squadron flew B-24 Liberator Bombers and Jack was the head air gunner of his flight group. Jack returned from the RAF after the war to his home community of Caledonia, where he purchased a farm in Oneida township. Through hard work, Sunnybrook Farms was created where he cash cropped and raised, processed and marketed fresh chicken at the Hamilton Farmers’ Market for over 50 years. Jack obtained his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying planes at his farm runway for many years. He also loved to golf and could be often seen practicing his shots on the farm lawns. In the farm off season, with his beloved late wife Evelyn, he enjoyed travelling south and around the world. Jack was known as a true gentleman and was an inspiration to his family and friends. A service will be held in Jack’s honour on Sunday November 26 at 12:30 pm at St Paul’s Anglican Church in Caledonia. In lieu of flowers, the family would sincerely appreciate a donation to the charity of your choice.
