Obituary for Harold Rhodes “Nick”
Nick Rhodes
March 21, 1919 – January 16, 2017
With sadness we announce the death of Harold “Nick” Rhodes, January 16, 2017.
Nick was born in Erickson, BC on March 21, 1919, the second to last of ten children. Raised in Creston, he moved to Kimberley and there he married Rhoda Heighton. They raised three daughters together. Betty, Bonnie and Lola.
Nick worked for CPR and at a variety of other jobs until he started to work for Cominco. He said the job at Cominco was a dream job because he could put in his work week and have weekends off to purse his other interests.
He treasured the years when their girls were young. Many people were welcomed into their home and benefited from Nicks knowledge and hospitality.
Nick was a life long hunter, fisher, and trapper, as well an accomplished archer. He belonged to the Quick Draw Arches and completed in archery at the Provincial level where he achieved a third place medal. He belonged to various organizations: Kimberley Wildlife & Wilderness Club. Kimberley Trap and Skeet Club, and Responsible Forearms Owners Coalition of BC and others. Nick throughly enjoyed times spent on his trapline whether alone with his dog Topper or with friends and family.
Nick was predeceased by his wife Rhoda in 2008, and his daughter Betty in 2015.
He is survived by his two daughters, Bonnie (Ernie) McKay and Lola (Sandy) Hutchins, as well as four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
At Nicks request there will be no service.
Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
