February 9, 1939 – December 27, 2017

WOOD, Harold Douglas – age 78, Greenwood Square, Kings Co., died December 27, 2017, while in Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Lawrencetown, he was the son of the late William Eldridge and Sylvia Bernice (Whitman) Wood.
Harold was a great story teller and often could be counted on to deliver hunting and fishing stories that would leave his family and friends amazed and always laughing and wanting more. At his happiest he was wandering through the woods or along a body of water fishing. Even while driving – Harold was still hunting with hawk-like eyes – he was the first to see a deer, fox, pheasant, you name it. With a need for speed and adventure in his younger days he drove stock car with his brothers. He carried his love of the outdoors and competitive nature to the water. He not only participated in canoe races, but also won with his brother-in-law and they were in a canoe and using paddles Harold built with his own hands. Loving to make things you would see him tying his own flies and then taking these to the LaHave River where the salmon didn’t stand a chance. To help feed the family and Harold’s love for the outdoors, when the children were young Harold began trapping. Many years he sent his catch to Hudson Bay Company. This catch consisted of bears, cougars, bob cats, lynx, fox, etc. Harold included his children in his outdoor adventures including hauling them on a sled behind the family snowmobile, teaching them to fish, to properly and safely clean a gun, and asking their help in required chores such as going to the woods to haul in wood for the winter. There was nothing he wasn’t willing to try, including hooking a buggy to the back of our family pony – only to have it return without him.
Harold was fast – not only did he smoke up the bases at the ball diamond in his 40s and 50s, his children witnessed him soar by a run-away pony and stand waiting for it to catch up to him as he grabbed its reigns and brought it home. As Harold’s grandchildren began to come along, his story telling grew stronger as he had a new audience who loved to listen.
Harold loved his grandchildren and wanted the absolute best for them. Surviving is his common-law companion, Sherry Lawson, Greenwood Square; his daughters, Debbie Wood (Wayne Harper), Black Rock; Tina Wood (Murray Seitz), Edmonton, Alta.; and Vicky (Richard) Keddy, Kingston; sons, Gregory (Tina) Wood, Paradise; Harold (Tina) Wood, Jr.; sisters, Joan Barteaux, Berwick; Janet (Wendall) Pye, Inglisville; Barbara Wood, Ontario; June Hiltz, Aylesford; Donna (Richard) Rice, New Brunswick; Mary (Norman) Gautreau, Ont.;
