Obituary Overview
Forever In Our Hearts
MITCHELL, Gwendolyn Lorraine (Gwen)
March 24, 1924 – November 30, 2017
Mom passed away, at the age of 93, as her family surrounded her with love. She was born and raised in Carman, Manitoba, married George in 1955 and enjoyed life as a military wife. They were stationed in several places from the West Coast to the East Coast. Mom was an avid curler and was renowned for her baking. She volunteered for many years at the Foothills Hospital’s long term care facility, where the residents looked forward to her treats at tea time. She and Dad also volunteered with the Calgary Southwest Lions Club for over two decades. Mom was a real go-getter and excelled at every job she ever held. She was a very feisty lady and right to the very end she showed that strength and determination.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, George, in 2015; parents, James and Alice; and four brothers and five sisters. She leaves to mourn, her children, Dale (Mary), Ted (Gail), Madalyn (Jean), Craig (Wendy) and Laura; her grandchildren, Kristopher, Edward, Michael, Laura-Lee, Natalie, Michele, Jessica and Elicia; and her great-grandchildren, Jasper, Violet, Desmond, Abbott, Lincoln, Calvin and Josephine. She is also survived by her brother Ed, (Sherril). We would like to thank the first responders and the Foothills Emergency Department for their valiant efforts and Unit 91 for making Mom’s last moments peaceful.
A family Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Eden Brook Funeral Home (17Ave SW and Lower Springbank Road) at 2:00pm.
