Gloria Jean Thompson – 2017

GLORIA JEAN THOMPSON
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful Mother, an incredible Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend. Gloria Jean Thompson died peacefully on New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 1, 2017 at the age of 75 years old after a year-long battle with cancer. She was born to Percy and Lucy Frost in Moose Jaw, SK on November 2, 1941 and was the youngest of three children. Gloria grew up in the Mossbank/ Mitchelton area where the family farmed. She attended school in the area, and later a nursing program in Moose Jaw.
Gloria met her husband, Michael Thompson, in Moose Jaw in the 60’s. They wed in 1963 and had their first born, Deborah Lynn, in 1965. Michael and Gloria moved to Regina in 1967, where they both worked at the Rae Street Extendicare. Shortly after, the two of them became sole owners of a janitorial business. Their son, Duane Robert, came later in 1972. In 1977, while still helping with the janitorial company, Gloria began a long career with Canadian Tire until her retirement over 30 years later. In 1995, the janitorial business closed and Gloria focused solely on Canadian Tire. In 2005, Michael passed away.
Gloria lived for her children and grandchildren and enjoyed her weekly phone calls with her sister, Pauline and sister-in-law, Elaine and visits with her friends, Terry and Sharon. Her summers at the lake were busy and exciting and she was always willing to make her famous potato salad which everybody loved and requested. The evenings were filled with laughter, visiting, and many, many games of Canasta. Gloria was an incredible card player, and her kids always wanted to challenge her. It wasn’t often she let anyone else win, but we sure celebrated when we did. Gloria was a very caring woman and always wanted to make sure people were comfortable. It made her happy to take care of others, while she herself never wanted to burden anyone else.
Gloria was predeceased by her husband, Michael; brother, Donald; mother and father, Percy and Lucy Frost; and other loved ones who went before her. She leaves to mourn her daughter Debbie (Lee) Lane, their children Colton and his daughter Emmie, Kelsey (Mark); her son Duane, his children Kylee (Cody), and Kolby; sister Pauline, sister-in-law Elaine, and both of their families; Michael’s family; her special friends, Terry and Sharon Hutton; and many more great friends and neighbours.
“Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, our chain will link again.”
We would like to thank family and friends for words and acts of support during this very difficult time. A Celebration of Gloria’s Life will be held at the Balgonie Multiplex, Hwy 364, Balgonie, SK on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com
