It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we, the family of Gilda Gardner (Cashin, MacDonald), 65, announce her sudden passing on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on October 4, 1952, Gilda was the daughter of Naomi MacDonald and the late Ivan MacDonald. She was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 008 Ladies Auxiliary, Sydney Mines. Gilda will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband David Gardner, her only daughter Jody (Kelley) Fitzgerald, her two sons Jason (Marie) Cashin and John (Krystal) Cashin, and 4 grandchildren whom she adored; AJ, Zach, Jordan and Chase. She is also survived by brothers Norman (Gail), Wayne (Barb) and Stewart, and sister Jeannette (Scott0, her long term best friend Linda Pye, her fur babies and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Special thanks to all the amazing nurses at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, ICU department, who took exceptional care of her during her admittance. An extra special thanks to Helen and Wayne, who took care of her on her last day, and Christopher, whom she spoke of very highly.
As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Her family will receive visitors in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines on Monday, December 11, 2017, from 1-2 p.m., followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 008, Sydney Mines.
