1920 – 2017
Life Story for Fuk Kwan Mak
Fuk Kwan “SAM” Mak was born on October 7, 1920 in Guangdong, China. Sam passed away
10 days short of his 97th birthday in his own home in Regina on Wednesday, September 27,
2017.
He had immigrated to Canada in 1958 where he had owned restaurants in Melville and Neudorf
and his latest was the Gateway Drive Inn which was later renamed Mak’s Restaurant till 1990.
That is when they decided to retire to Regina to be closer to their son, Donnie and his family.
Sam was always a quiet man and never wanted to cause trouble for anyone. He taught his
children and grandchildren what hard work was and that we needed to do that to succeed in life.
He lived his life simply and never wasted. He spent many hours tending to the yard or simply
just sitting in a lawn chair watching the fish swim in the pond. His greatest joy was eating out
and listening to the chatter.
Sam is survived by his wife, Bow of nearly 70 years of marriage, daughter, Sherry (Daryl) Bell
and their daughters, Madisyn and Jordyn, son, Larry Mak (Lori Machiskinic) and his daughter,
Kayla and daughter in law, Alice Mak and her children Michael Mak (Heena) and their son,
Greyson who was born 4 days prior to his passing and Cindy Mak. Grandchildren, May Chan,
Myra Chan (Tim Drobot), Anna Moore (David), Deanna Chan (Marc Smith), Tim Chan, Gina
Dumalge (Terry) and their children Kameron and Ava and David Chan.
