Suddenly at the age of 82 years on August 21, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener Ontario, just two days after the passing of her twin brother Fred Nicholson of Calgary Alberta.
Predeceased by her parents, Ida & Dick Nicholson, and her late husband Jack Howell of Kemble Ontario. She will be deeply missed by her sons Brian (Katherine), Bruce (Catherine), stepson Phil (Bonnie), sister- in-law Lois, nephew Paul and niece Joy. Penny was a doting grandmother to Stephanie, Lindsay and Megan and a loving friend and companion to Joe Freitas of Kemble.
Born and raised in Bowden Alberta, Penny fondly remembered riding ‘bareback’ on her horse to school from her family farm during the depression years. As a young woman, she was able to showcase her musical, dance and acrobatic talents in many professional shows along with her dance partner and twin brother, Fred. She was even a contestant in the Miss Canada Pageant in 1958 where she took 1st place in the Talent show.
For over 25 years Penny was top saleslady with Howell’s Fish at the Owen Sound market. Every Saturday she rose before the sun to greet and serve customers with her warm and friendly smile. She always took the time to put aside orders for her regular customers and decorate the market according to the season.
Penny was an avid gardener, cook and baker, an accomplished seamstress and an amateur photographer. Most importantly she was a compassionate and big-hearted friend to all those who had the honour of having her touch their lives.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 30th, 2017 from 6-9pm at the Tannahill Funeral Home, 1178 4th Ave West, Owen Sound, 519-376-3710. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, August 31st, 2017 at 11:00am. Interment Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
