Faye Cherry

Faye Cherry

herry, Agnes Faye (Nee
McCorkindale)
From her residence at Eden House, Eden Mills, Faye passed
away suddenly from heart failure, en route to the Guelph General
Hospital on Wednesday morning, March 1, 2017 in her
78th year. She was the beloved mother of
Bernadette Wells (the late Craig Pemberton, d.2014) and Jason Wells
(Amanda). Cherished grandmother of Marshall, Joshua, Sam and
Max. Dearest sister of Bob (Erin), Neil (Valerie), Bill
(Linda) and Jim (Linda) McCorkindale. Predeceased by her parents, Dr.
W.C.”Bill” and Agnes McCorkindale.
Faye’s father was from the Willow Road farm
“Fountainhead” and her mother was a coal
miner’s daughter from Larkhall (near Glasgow),
Scotland. Faye out-lived two husbands, Edward Wells (d.1986)
(father of her children) and Ronald W. Cherry (d.2004). She
will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Canada
and Australia. Faye was the first survivor of pioneer
surgery at Toronto SickKids Hospital in 1940, for the most severe form
of Spina Bifida. The operation was successfully performed
and attended by a team of surgeons from Canada and U.S.A. At
the time, Faye was called a “miracle baby” and not
expected to live beyond 6 years. Faye was truly a
remarkable, special lady with an indomitable spirit and a wonderful
sense of humour and was much loved by many. Friends may call at the
