Edwin Murray Smith, 98, a resident of Fundy Royal
Manor, Hillsborough and formerly Petitcodiac and Fredericton passed
away Friday, July 28, 2017 at the Manor.
Born in Gowland Mountain, he was a son of the late
William George and Lulu (MacKenzie) Smith. Edwin taught school in his
early working life and then served his country in World War II with
the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war he worked in partnership
operating the Geldart and Smith Grocery store in Petitcodiac. In the
mid-sixties he moved his family to Fredericton where he worked with
his brother-in-law at the former Tingley’s Save Easy. Upon retirement
they moved back to Moncton where he was a member of First Baptist
Church. He served as President for a term with Royal Canadian Legion
Branch 41, Petitcodiac.
Survived and sadly missed by his children Wendy
Ogilvie (Gordon) of Moncton, Darlene Graham of Campbell River, BC,
Donald Graham (late Sandy) of Mass., USA, grandchildren Adam, Matthew,
Lisa, Darla, Kezia, Stuart, Stephen and Douglas and by several great
and great great grandchildren. Survived also by his sister Carol
Bartol (John) of Windsor, NS, brothers Harold (Winnie) of Moncton and
Winston (Eileen) of Ottawa, sister-in-law Alice Smith of Vancouver
and by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife
Agnes, sisters Edna Smith, Dorothy Tingley and Mary Hughes, brothers
George, Ken, Robert and Walter.
Resting at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Route
106 (372-4800), where the family will receive relatives and friends
Monday, July 31, 7 to 8:30 pm. Royal Canadian Legion Branch
41 will conduct a tribute to a veteran service at 6:45 pm. The funeral
will be held from the funeral home chapel Tuesday, August 1 at 11 am
with a reception to follow. Interment in the New Elgin
Cemetery.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorials to the
Friends of the Moncton Hospital or a charity of choice would be
appreciated by the family.
