Obituary Overview
Edward Cecil McIntyre Cox
Cox, Edward Cecil McIntyre of Dartmouth,
passed away on December 6, 2017, surrounded
by his loving family. Born on February 7, 1931,
in Ottawa, Ontario, he was filled with a life
long sense of wonder of the mysteries of the world
we live in. Fueled by that deep sense of
curiosity he was an avid reader and life long learner from
a young child to the end of his life.
His quick wit and humour always put a smile on faces and brought
about many chuckles. He was a committed and
devoted husband, father and grandfather
and a favorite and well loved uncle and grand uncle to many nieces
and nephews. He loved God and served Him all of his
adult years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Dartmouth
and loved being part of that community of believers.
He left his childhood hometown of Brockville, Ontario and
joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1948 serving for
38 years before retiring as a Petty Officer First Class, Canada Decoration.
He went on to work for Parks Canada for 10 years as a
quartermaster at Citadel Hill, Halifax. He mixed the gun powder
for the noon gun and we often teased that he used too
much powder on days when the blast was particularly loud.
He loved to build and tinker and enjoyed wood carving,
traveling and contributing to the community wherever
he could. He loved to spend time at the family cottage
which he designed and built on Big Tancook Island.
A lifetime of happy memories where made there with his wife and
family that he adored. He was predeceased by his beloved wife,
Ruby (Heisler) Cox, mother Helen (McIntyre) Cox,
stepfather, Thomas Cox; half brothers, Thomas Cox and Douglas Cox.
He leaves behind his sons Tony (Jeanette) Cox, Jeff (Mary Ellen) Cox
and daughter, Annette Cox; grandchildren Derek (Whitney Camm) Cox,
Adam Cox, Melanie Cox, Keith Cox and Mila Cox and many nieces
and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. The family wishes
to thank the wonderful staff of Camp Hill Veterans Memorial, Cedar Crest
who cared for him during the final months of his life with exceptional
care and compassion. Visitation will take place from 7-9 pm on
Tuesday December 12, 2017 at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St.
Dartmouth. A celebration of his life and reception will be held on
Wednesday December 13, 2017 at 11:00 am First Baptist Church
100 Ochterloney St., Dartmouth. Rev. Martin Zwicker officiating.
Interment to follow at 2:30 at Dartmouth Memorial Gardens 767 Main St., Dartmouth.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church Dartmouth
