William Henry “Sonny” Cyr, 85, of Foxbrook Road, Westville, NS, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2017 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, with his family at his side.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Alexander and Bertha (Deagle) Cyr.
Sonny worked at the Drummond Mine at an early age and years later worked at Hawker Siddeley for many years until his retirement.
Sonny loved the outdoors, hunting, trapping and fishing. His greatest enjoyment was time spent with his family.
He will be dearly missed by his loving companion Nellie; children, Brian (Kathy Bourgeois), West River; Heather Halliday (Kevin MacLellan), Westville; Ken (Shelley Chennell), Plymouth; Allan (Sharon Martin), Elgin; Murdoch, Westville; Steven (Mariann), Churchville; Debbie Barnes (Brian), Watervale; Marian, Westville; and Pam (Tom MacLeod), Westville; 21 grandchildren; several great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Marjorie Phippen, Vancouver; brother Sandy (Betty), Westville; first wife Marion, Westville; special grandniece Kayla, Halifax.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter Catherine; sisters, Muriel Burgie (Jerry), Edna Cyr (Mike), Geraldine Cyr (Leonard), Barbara MacLeod (Edward); brother Murdoch (Joan); daughter-in-law Elaine MacIsaac and son-in-law Blair Halliday.
Sonny is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, with visiting on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday from Eagles Funeral Chapel with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery.
