Michael “Mike” Malcolm Betts, 74, of Stellarton, formerly of Westville, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late James and Bertha (Malcolm) Betts.
Mike was an employee of Pepsi for 47 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Westville Fire Department for 23 years. Mike had a hobby of checking car inspections and many of his friends jokingly referred to him as “The Inspector”. He liked going for walks and stopping to chat with the people along the way.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Mike will be dearly missed by his wife of 53 years, Katherine “Doll” (Jackson); daughters, Sherry MacQuarrie (Peter), Saint John, NB; Michelle Farrell (James), New Glasgow; grandchildren, Katelynn and Kaleb MacQuarrie; brother Richard, Sudbury, Ont.; sisters-in-law, Joan Jackson and Pearl Blackwood; and brother-in-law Charles “Buck” Jackson.
He was predeceased by a brother James.
His family will receive visitors on Tuesday, December 26, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held 1 o’clock Wednesday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Bees Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society. www.eaglesfuneralhome.ca
