Bernice (Gladys) LaKing (née Murphy)
of McAdam, NB passed away unexpectedly at the Dr. Everett Chalmers
Regional Hospital, Fredericton on Wednesday, November 29, 2017. She
was 94.
Born March 2, 1923 in Charlottetown, PEI, she
was a daughter of the late Pat and Bell Murphy.
Bernice was employed at Wauklehegan Manor,
McAdam, for 25 plus years. She was a life-long member of the Ladies
Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion, McAdam Branch No.7. She was an avid
crib player and bowler throughout her life. Bernice was a strong
supporter of her community for 92 years.
Bernice is survived by her daughter, Patsy-Ann
Kitchen of Upper Kingsclear, NB and her son Lloyd LaKing (Lynn) of
Fort McMurray, Alberta; 5 grandchildren, Robert Kitchen (Pamela), Joe
Kitchen, Wally Kitchen, Charro LaKing and Gibson LaKing (Adri); 8
great-grandchildren, Courtney Skinner, Matthew Kitchen, Brady Kitchen,
Caleb Kitchen, Carly Sneath, Robby Sneath, Makayla Kitchen
and Mason Kitchen; 3 great-great grandchildren, Sophie Skinner, Claire
Skinner and Blake Skinner. Bernice is also survived by sisters,
Wanetah Clark and Glenys Doherty (Keith); nieces and
nephews.
Bernice was predeceased by her parents; husband
Robert LaKing; son Tommy LaKing and grandson Mitch Kitchen; son-in-law
Arthur Kitchen and brother-in-law Billy Clark; also brothers, Charles,
Lionel and Reg Murphy; sisters Patricia Evans and Bennett
Holland.
No visitation or formal funeral service by
request. Interment will be held in the Rockland Cemetery, McAdam, NB
in the spring of 2018.
