Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Diana, his son Roy, daughter-in-law Barbara and grandchildren Russell, Rebecca and Riley. He is also survived by his sister Olga and brother-in-law Gerry deRuiter (Fort Erie), sisters-in-law Rosemarie and Brenda Storm (Welland), many nieces and nephews and two great grand-nieces. Predeceased by his parents, Emma and Herman Wieschkowski, his brothers Helmut, Leo and Eugene and his sister-in-law Margaret. Bernie was born in Germany on May 5th, 1935 and came to Canada with his mother and siblings in 1953, settling in Calgary where he met his wife Diana and married her in 1959. This past October, they celebrated 58 years together. In Calgary, Bernie worked for Borger Bros. Construction and for Canada Cement (Lafarge) Company in Exshaw, Alberta. Moving to Port Colborne in 1966, here Bernie was employed by the Niagara South Board of Education, from where he retired in 1993. Bernie loved his family, spending time with his grandchildren and spending countless hours in his home workshop. The family wishes to sincerely thank the wonderful caregivers at Northland Pointe for the past 8 years of his residency and especially in recent weeks as he neared the end of his life. We also wish to thank our friends, Pastor Michael Meleg and members of St. Peters Lutheran Church. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME, 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service in the Davidson Chapel at 12:00 noon. A reception will be held immediately following the funeral service at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 200 Erie St, Port Colborne.
