Passed away peacefully on November 17th, in her 87th year. Predeceased by her husband William (Ted). Mother of Dan (Karen), Debbie (Peter) and David (Carol), hip grandmother (‘the granulator’) to Lee (Monica), Katie, Kyle (Kat), Megan and Taylor. Barb was raised on a cattle ranch in the BC interior east of Quesnel BC with 2 older sisters and a younger brother. Her father also ran a general store for those who didn’t have the time or means to cross the river and make the 20 mile journey into town. There was no electricity so family life revolved around the big wood stove in the kitchen. After graduating high school, Barb moved on to a nursing career at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster BC. It was a short career as soon after starting there she met her soon-to-be husband Ted. Family life quickly followed in Ioco BC, St. Albert AB and Toronto. Retirement brought a new challenge and it was a rare day that Barb couldn’t be found on the golf course, an activity she enjoyed well into her 80’s. She also enjoyed a wide range of other activities with her large circle of friends. The family wishes to thank the residents and staff at Amica Bayview for providing a warm and welcoming environment and a large group of new friends for her later years. The family also wishes to thank the staff at North York General Hospital 3 West for their kindness and support for Barb during her final illness. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. Per her wishes, there will be no funeral service. There will be a visitation with family and celebration of her life on Sunday December 3rd from 2 to 5 pm at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street (at Goulding, South of Steeles).
