(May 23 1930 November 20 2017)
> > Audrey Mae Boutilier > May 23rd, 1930 ~ November 20th, 2017 > > Audrey Mae Boutilier was born in beautiful George’s River, Cape Breton on May 23rd, 1930. > She was the daughter of George and Rose Cartwright of George’s River, Cape Breton. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon Boutilier; brothers Kenny, George, Gerald and Edward (Teddy); sisters Muriel, Nancy, Ethel (Missy) and Ruth. > > Farm Life in Cape Breton: > > Audrey was a woman who was not afraid to get her hands dirty, working hard on her father’s farm in George’s River. She helped with the building of the family’s house and Audrey could be found tilling the soil, planting and harvesting the crops for the good of the family, a nice quality Jehovah found in her for her ministry work! In fact she would be in the woods in winter time helping to fell trees with her father for heat with her favourite horse Dolly. > > A Witness for Jehovah: > > Aurdrey’s first recollection of Bible truth was from a school friend Claire Hillier (Morrison), who spoke of God’s word and often talked about it on bicycle rides with Audrey. > > Later in life, Audrey married Gordon Wilfred Boutilier of Sydney Mines on September 29th, 1955 and soon made a life for themselves in George’s River. > > Gordon was actively searching for truth in God’s Word through study of various religions and study courses they offered but, was always left unsatisfied with the answers they offered. When he was contacted by Jehovah’s Witnesses in the door to door ministry, he readily accepted a Bible Study. > > Through his study and personal examination of scripture he realized what he was learning was the truth and soon after, Audrey accepted the truth also. At first Audrey did not sit in on the study sessions but, would listen in secret in the next room. She finally sat in on the studies with Gordon and liked what she was hearing. Audrey was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 16th, 1960. > > Audrey was known to be very generous with extra produce from the family farm, helping to support the pioneers in the local area in the North Sydney congregation. > > Gordon and Audrey had seven children, Linda, Donna, Raymond who were born in Cape Breton and Wayne, Paul, Marshall & Tamara who were born in Halifax after moving there in 1964. They were first members of the many Halifax congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses located in Fairview on Hillcrest Avenue, Cork Street, Almon Street, Charles Street and for Audrey once again in the Fairview Congregation on Parkland Drive and finally in the Sackville Congregation in Lower Sackville. > > Tragically, her husband Gordon succumbed to cancer in 1984 at the age of 57… much too young. This left her with the monumental task of providing and raising the remaining four children still living at home at this time. With much help from Jehovah’s Holy Spirit and the congregation of faithful brothers and sisters she accomplished this task. > > Not long after her husband’s death, Audrey entered the full-time Ministry on September 1st, 1989, teaching others about the wonderful truths of God’s Word that she had learned and put into practice. > > Audrey was also privileged to attend different international conventions all over the world as a delegate. She attended ones in Germany, Russia and Australia. This was indeed a highlight in her life. Then she went on trips to New York and Canada Branch Bethel tours, Japan and Israel. She also attended the Pioneer School several times for full-time ministers of Jehovah’s Witnesses that advanced her education of God’s Word! > > When all her children moved on… Audrey also had the privilege of using her house, in later years, to board many sisters, some of which were from far away places. > > Audrey was well known for her boldness and fearlessness in the ministry. She was able to witness in places where many would have found difficult to access such as CFB Stadacona, a military base in Halifax! She was able to leave much literature at the waiting areas for soldiers stationed at the base. > > She also left literature behind in the Abby Lane Hospital. At one point a nurse opposed her leaving literature. Audrey asked why she couldn’t leave it behind and did not get a satisfactory answer, so she immediately approached the Head of Human Resources for the hospital who was in a meeting at the time. She requested permission from him to continue to leave behind literature at the hospital and he said yes. Being thorough she asked to have that in writing which he obliged by writing her a note in pen which she carried for many years while leaving literature at the Abby Lane Hospital. In fact she once again was confronted by the nurse and used the note to refute her opposition. She truly lived up to the scriptures in Acts 20:24… > > “Nevertheless, I do not consider my own life of any importance to me, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to bear thorough witness to the good news of the undeserved kindness of God.” – Acts 20:24 > > It was her habit to rise quite early to witness to people in public places such as parking lots, at grocery stores and gas stations before the group arrangements for field service in Highland Park. She was also known for supporting others with rides to the service arrangements, congregation meetings and taking brothers and sisters into her home for conventions, Pioneer School and work assignments. > > She was a faithful sister in her pioneer ministry, although limited in her witnessing work in later years, she remained faithful right up until her death. > > Family: > > Audrey is survived by her sister Mildred Kettlewell and her seven children; Linda (Adrien) Robichaud, Donna (Terry) James, Raymond (Brenda), Wayne (Shelly), Paul (Jayme), Marshall (Angela) and Tamara Boutilier. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Natasha Robichaud and Wyatt Boutilier. She will be missed by so many friends and family but is now safe in Jehovah’s memory and awaiting a resurrection promised in his word! > > Until we meet again in paradise… When Jehovah will make you “fresher than in youth” and return you to the days of your “youthful vigor.” ~ Job 33:25.
