Arthur Buick
Arthur (Art) Buick passed away peacefully on Christmas day in St. Paul’s Hospital. He was 89 years old. Art was born in Saskatoon and lived his entire life there. He grew up loving sports – he played hockey with Gordie Howe on the streets with frozen horse apples, and also enjoyed gymnastics, football, judo, downhill skiing and baseball.
He became a mechanic and eventually took ownership of Lorne Avenue Service at the corner of Lorne and Taylor. The niece of the original owners of the shop, Thelma Parker caught his eye, and they wed 66 1/2 years ago. They have been inseparable as a couple, and are a model for true love. He eventually sold the garage and had another career working at the U of S as a Purchaser. He and his beloved wife share many, many stories of motorcycle trips, travel, days at the cabin, times at the shop, parties, pets, and family. They raised 4 kids – Byron (Barb in Sydney NS), Karen Johns (Jay in Saskatoon), Janice Yule (Scott in Regina) and Heather Eiswerth (Dale in Regina). Art loved spending time with his grandchildren – Emily, James and Rachel Buick; Jordan and Kirk(Tarrah) Johns; Michael(Amy), Nathan and Amy Yule; and Jessica(Nathan), Alexander(Chloe), Hannah, Landon and Daniel Eiswerth. His kids and grandchildren adored him. Art was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Adelaide Buick; and siblings Leslie Buick, Hazel Nelson, Irene Wright, Jim Buick & Dave Buick. He survived by his brother Bob Buick.
Art will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him. His zest for life, his positivity, his sense of humour, his loving and generous nature will be remembered forever.
Memorial donations may be made directly to Palliative Care Ward at St Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.
A Celebration of Life will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, 1801 Lorne Avenue, Saskatoon on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
