Alice Reimer – 2017

Alice Mary Reimer
Alice Mary Reimer, age 87, of Swift Current, Saskatchewan and formerly of Simmie, Saskatchewan, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current.
Alice was born on June 24, 1929 on the family farm in the Simmie District, the youngest child of Eilt and Addie Lehna. In the 1930s, Alice lived in Vancouver with her mother, who worked as a hairdresser, while her father traveled back and forth between the city and the farm, and in 1939, the family returned to the farm at Simmie. She received her education through homeschooling.
On April 20, 1953, Alice married Irwin Reimer and they set up their first home in Swift Current. When Alice’s dad asked Irwin to help on the farm, they moved to Simmie. In 1967, they moved to the family farm where they resided until 5 years ago. Alice and Irwin had three children, Dale, Terry and Pamela.
Alice was employed at the Swift Current Care Center for 17 years.
In 1983, Irwin and Alice built a greenhouse attached to their home. Over the years, Alice grew cucumbers, tomatoes and thousands of flowers; some she sold but most were for many patio pots and flowerbeds and those of her family and friends.
Alice was a member of St. David’s United Church and Ladies Aid. She also instructed the Simmie Majorettes. Alice and Irwin loved travelling, square dancing and round dancing. Alice’s last dances with Irwin were at her grandchildren’s weddings, where they received the honour of being the longest married couple.
Other interests were sewing, crocheting, embroidery, quilting and flower arranging. Every member of the family received gifts made by her hands. She loved to entertain family and friends, and nobody went home hungry. After the meals, it was time for rousing games of Kaiser or Hearts on the computer.
Alice is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Irwin Reimer, her sons, Dale Reimer (Linda Hotchkiss) and Terry (Sherry) Reimer and daughter, Pamela (Kim) Shaheen, her grandchildren, Rebecca Reimer (Morihei Yophehki), Nicole (Mike) Sewlal, Amanda (Alberto) Orjuela, Sherisse (Mark) Treble, Nathan Reimer, Samantha (Ty) Ludwig, Michael (Candice) Shaheen, Luke (Jamie) Shaheen and Cole Shaheen, her great-grandchildren, Quinn Reimer, Isabellah Reimer, Sarah Sewlal, Samuel Sewlal, Micah Sewlal, Timothy Sewlal, Ezekiel Orjuela, Nathaniel Orjuela, Elizabeth Ludwig, Grainger Shaheen and Kent Shaheen, sisters-in-law, Irene Curtis, Madeline Ozga, Dot Reimer and brother-in-laws, Ernie Reimer and Glen Curtis, and numerous nieces and nephews.
