Agnes Bowman – 1928-2017

Agnes Bowman
1928-2017
Mary Agnes (Pelrine) Bowman passed away peacefully on June 8,
2017, at the age of 88, in the RK MacDonald Nursing Home,
Antigonish.
Born in Antigonish, and formerly
of Merland, Agnes was the daughter of the late James and Mary
(O’Brien) Pelrine.
She is survived
by sons, Charles (Maureen), Clyde (Jeanette), David, Kevin
(Bernadette), Alvin (Cathy), Andrew; daughters, Audrey (Blaise)
Bailey, and Trudy (Robert) Hallett; step daughter, Viola (Renie)
Grant; brothers, Lawrence, Charlie, and Leo Pelrine. She was a nanny
to 19 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and foster sister to
Ethel Layes, Margaret Boyle, and Joe Breen.
Other than her quick wit, Agnes will be remembered for her
love of bingo, a cup of tea with a sweet or two, and a good game of
cards. Her doors were never locked, lights were never off, and some
may remember her house as “The Merland Motel”. Also,
let’s not forget her famous bedtime hot toddy. Agnes worked
in the laundry at the RK MacDonald Nursing Home, and took in and cared
for many elders in her home.
She was
predeceased by husband, Charles Bowman; brothers, James (her twin),
Ambrose, Michael, Roderick, William, and Patrick; sisters, Margaret
and Alice (Bonvie); step children, Edward, John, Francis Bowman,
Martha MacEachern, Eileen Williams; sister in laws, Agnes and Diane
Pelrine; brother in law Henry Bonvie.
Visitations will be Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 at MacIsaac’s Funeral
Home 61 Pleasant St. Antigonish, funeral mass will be held Monday at
10 am in St. Peters Church, Tracadie, burial to follow in St. Patricks
cemetery, Merland. Rev. John Barry presiding. Family would like to
thank Dr. Booth, and the staff of the RK MacDonald Nursing Home,
especially Angela, for their care over the past year. In lieu of
flowers, please perform a random act of kindness.
