Abram Giesbrecht – 2017

2017
Obituary Overview
Abram Giesbrecht
Peacefully, dad left us on November 15, 2017 at the Bethania Nursing Home at the age of 89.
He leaves behind his daughter Shirley Baillie, son Harry (Linda) Giesbrecht; grandchildren Kevin (Jenn) Baillie, Candace Nield (Dwayne Garrow), Mathew Giesbrecht, Steve (Britni) Godkin; great-grandsons Cullen Nield, Kyle and Dawson Baillie, Logan and Tannor Garrow, Chase Godkin; and one great-granddaughter Bria Godkin; adopted great-grandsons Kaleb and Quintin Link (Darcie and Vince).
Dad was predeceased by his wife Helen (2013); 3 stillborn sons; son-in-law David Baillie; his parents Henry and Eva Giesbrecht; sisters Esther (Earl), Verna, and brother Harry Howard.
Dad was born September 12, 1928 in Rosenort/Altona Manitoba. In November 1948, after a brief courtship, he married Helen (Harder) and moved back to Manitoba to raise their family. He worked for the City of Winnipeg, driving sanitation trucks and street sweepers and retired September 18, 1993.
In retirement he loved to tinker and fix things, if family or neighbours needed something, it was let’s go to Abe’s place, he might have what we need. Dad never tossed out anything he might use, it just might come in handy.
Dad’s life was his family and greeted you with a firm handshake, he also loved to tease the grandchildren if they had a spanking at school yet. Dad was a man who always spoke his mind and often did, you always knew where you stood with him.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd.
