Howie Centre
We, the family of Yvonne Marie Richard, regret to announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on Friday, January 31, 2025, in the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born October 19, 1936, in Louisdale, Yvonne was a daughter of the late Simon and Delia (Sampson) Langlois. She and Frank raised their family on Grand Lake Road.
Yvonne, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, was a woman of warmth, kindness and quiet strength, whose greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who she adored beyond words.
She had a lifelong passion for knitting, creating beautiful, handmade pieces filled with love and care. Whether it was a cozy sweater, dishcloths or a pair of warm mittens, every stitch carried her devotion. Her love for baseball was just as strong, always cheering for her favorite team, the Blue Jays and never missing a game, if she could help it.
Above all, “Nanny Von” will be remembered for her unwavering love, generosity, and the way she made everyone feel at home. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched, especially her family who will forever cherish the laughter and love she shared.
Yvonne is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Philip) MacLean, Sydney, Beverly (Dan) Mader, Sydney, Susan (Taso) Sifnakis, Howie Centre, Marion (John) Newcombe, Halifax, Judy (Kevin) Williamson, Ont. and Lori (Neil) Paterson, Sydney; daughter-in-law Susan Richard, son, Kevin, Sydney; brothers, Ronnie, Alberta and Dave, Paul (Dorothy), Austin (Pam) and Blair (Cathy), all of Sydney; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Francis “Frank”; son, Brian; sisters, Linda (in infancy), Viola Sylvester and Stella Munroe.
A special thank you to the staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital (3A), as well as a special thank you to the most caring staff of the Northside General Hospital (4E) who took special care of mom during her final months.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. The family will hold a private service. A Celebration of Life (open to the public) will be held at the Dobson Yacht Club, Westmount on Saturday, February 22nd at starting at 12:30. Interment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the cancer unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
