Yvonne “Bunny” Melander (née Skillen) departed this world unexpectedly on March 8th, 2025,
at 92 years of age.
Known lovingly as Bunny, she was preceded in death by her husband Len and is survived by her
children Shaun Melander (Melanie Diamond), Jerry Melander (Cheryl Melander), Kathy McKeil
(Blair McKeil), and Barry Melander. She leaves behind grandsons Richard Padulo (Natasha
Mackow), Shaun Padulo (Carlye Bellavia), Joshua Melander (Misha Capecchi), Micheal
Melander (Sam Hill), Wyatt and Jarret McKeil, and great-grandchildren Siena Padulo, Alex and
Audrey Padulo,
Her sister Pheobe and brother Johnny (Erna) preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister
Teresa, brothers Pat (Anne) and Vinnie (Doris), along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A native of Dryden, Ontario, Bunny completed her education at Dryden High School where she
encountered her future husband. Len and Bunny enjoyed 64 years of marriage together.
Her family was her greatest achievement and source of joy. She devoted herself entirely to being
a wife and mother. Her presence was constant—before school, during lunch breaks, and after
classes ended. As Len’s career took them across countries and continents, Bunny faithfully
accompanied him from Dryden, Ontario to Prince George, British Columbia; Brandon, Manitoba
to Tokoroa, New Zealand; Niagara Falls, Ontario to Wausau, Wisconsin; and finally to Bonita
Springs, Florida for their retirement. These relocations challenged the family, but her unwavering
support for Len and her inner strength taught her children how to adapt to new environments.
While motherhood fulfilled her deeply, becoming a grandmother and great-grandmother brought
her ultimate happiness. She remained actively involved in their lives, delighting in their
experiences and activities. She lavished them with affection, time, thoughtful cards, and warm
embraces.
Bunny was an enthusiastic reader who always had a book in progress. In her younger years, she
enjoyed golfing and competitive curling, and later took pleasure in watching both sports on
television.
Though small in stature, she possessed remarkable strength and generosity. She provided
steadfast support to family and friends alike.
Though Bunny has passed, her legacy endures through the narratives and recollections she
created with everyone whose life she touched. Following her wishes and those of her family, a
celebration of her life will take place this summer in her hometown of Dryden, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, Bunny requested donations to the Palliative Care Department of the Dryden Regional Hospital. Contributions can be made online at: Dryden Regional Health Centre
